As the number one most unmissable thing to do in Korea, the DMZ and 3rd infiltration tunnel experience takes you through a sad and traumatic period in Korea’s and the world’s history. By the end of the tour, you will learn how this event shaped Korea’s past and present and better understand what formed the current relationship between South and North Korea.

In the afternoon, before returning to Seoul, we’ll embark on a detour to your choice of either Gamaksan (Gamak Mountain) or Majangho (Majang Reservoir Lake).

Located near the DMZ. Gamaksan mountain is home to beautiful scenic views and the longest suspension bridge in Korea, called Gamaksan Chulleong Bridge (Gamaksan Suspension Bridge).

In contrast, Majang Lake offers incredible picturesque views of the reservoir over which the Majang Reservoir Suspension Bridge hangs. Perfect for selfies, gorgeous couples, and family snaps to remember your trip to Korea forever.

DMZ 3rd Tunnel and Gamaksan Suspension Bridge – Course Overview

Our DMZ 3rd Tunnel & Red Suspension Bridge tour is one of our most popular and best-received DMZ tours. It offers the perfect combination of adventure and suspense before ending the day on a high note with drop-dead gorgeous views and a chance to capture some unique, awe-inspiring photos.

So, without further ado, let’s break down the day’s tour itinerary to see what makes this such an exciting and memorable tour.

Imjingak Park

Not far from the Demarcation Line (DML) and the third tunnel of aggression, you’ll find Imjingak Park. This park was initially built as a place to console families split apart by the Korean War and the resulting Demilitarized Zone, who cannot return to their hometowns or visit their friends or families.

The park is filled with statues, monuments, observation decks, a pond, altars, bells, bridges, bunkers, and exhibitions. It even has a small amusement park.

The Bridge of Freedom

Next is the Bridge of Freedom, an iconic symbol of the cease-fire and pause of the Korean confrontation. The bridge was originally built as one of two railway bridges, with this one heading South across the Imjin River.

During the war, the bridge was destroyed, but after the armistice was signed, it was quickly rebuilt with wood to exchange prisoners of war (POW). Roughly 12 thousand POWs used this bridge to return home to South Korea.

The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel

Next, we have a tour of the DMZ’s 3rd tunnel, one of this excursion’s two main highlights.

Inside the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel during our half day DMZ tour
You can enter the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel and walk in the footsteps of Korean soldiers if you are OK with confined spaces and can manage a steep incline on the way back.

North Korea built the tunnel in an attempt to invade South Korea by stealth. However, it was discovered in 1978 before the North could use it.

During this part of the tour, you will be invited to enter the tunnel known as the third tunnel of aggression and walk in the footsteps of North Korean soldiers. The tunnel’s entrance is steep, while the lower tunnel is narrow (2 meters wide), closed (2 meters high) and long (1,635 meters).

Those who struggle with steep inclines or enclosed spaces are more than welcome to explore an exhibition near the tunnel entrance while you wait for the rest of the group to return.

Dora Observatory

At Dora Observatory, you will get the best views across the border. It is also a favorite amongst guests due to its proximity to North Korea and unobstructed views.

The view from Dora Observatory inside the DMZ

The observatory features several high-powered binoculars on the 3rd floor with an open roof. The roof provides clear views of Several sites, including a North Korean village, the North’s ninth-largest city, some statues, and the Kaesong Industrial Complex.

The observatory was rebuilt to provide a better viewing angle and re-opened at the end of 2018.

Now choose between one of two Red Suspension Bridges for the final part of the tour. Either end the day with a trip to Gamak Mountain Suspension Bridge or Majang Lake Suspension Bridge—both are very popular and well reviewed by our guests.

Gamaksan Chulleong Bridge (Option 1)

Get ready to experience the thrill of walking on the longest suspension bridge in Korea!

Be prepared to capture stunning photos, leaving your friends and family in awe. Guests who have visited before rave about the picturesque beauty of the bridge, calling it a highlight of their trip and a view to remember.

So, if you’re feeling adventurous and up for some exercise, don’t miss the chance to climb the stairs and experience this thrilling attraction for yourself!

Majang Reservoir Suspension Bridge (Option 2)

Get ready for a thrilling adventure at the Majang Reservoir Suspension Bridge, a tour highlight! Stretching an impressive 220 meters across the stunning Majang Lake in Paju, this bridge is one of the longest towerless suspension bridges in the country—perfect for bragging rights!

Built in 2017, the bridge sways gently as you stroll, offering jaw-dropping views of the shimmering lake and surrounding lush forests. Feel the excitement as you peer through the bulletproof glass floor midway across—talk about a heart-pumping moment!

The lake, originally an agricultural reservoir from 2000, is now a vibrant urban park with a scenic boardwalk, water sports, and cozy cafes. Whether snapping pics or soaking in the fresh air, this stop promises a fun, unforgettable vibe you won’t want to miss!

I really enjoyed the DMZ 3rd Tunnel & Red Suspension Bridge Tour with Jenny on 17 July. Due to the security situation the military informed last minute that we would not be able to go to the 3rd Tunnel and the Dora Observatory, but Jenny (with the help of the main office) immediately came up with a good alternative program: Gondola Tour across the Imjon River and Odusan Unification Tower with a good view to the North. Jenny shared lots of interesting stories, and with her good humor made the day a very pleasant experience for the whole group.
